Usually we have songwriters sharing their own songs, but today we have Chris David Westover-Muñoz, (and on Facebook) associate professor and director of bands at Denison University near Columbus, Ohio. He grew a passion for the music of the early 1900s used by the Wobblies (IWW - International Workers of the World) as they struggled for a profound change for working folks around the world. The result is the record, Starvation Army Band Music #1: To Fan The Flames of Discontent. Chris directs the Brass Band of Columbus and the New York Democratic Socialist choir Sing in Solidarity, resurrecting the songs, many written by Joe Hill, but used by the Wobblies in their work to win minds and hearts. There is a lot of fascinating history involved in this music and movement, including that of Joe Hill, the IWW, and Chris Westover.
