Even Cowburls Get the Bluegrass (and Much More)

Cover of ISMAY's album, Desert Pavement

ISMAY is a musical experience wrapped around Avery Hellman. Without trying to limit ISMAY by any of the boxes we often put musicians in, their music is bluegrass, or country, or Americana, or folk, or something completely new. And Avery, a.k.a ISMAY, is a farmer, a singer-songwriter, an environmentalist, a cowburl, or some kind of person you're just going to be astonished by. Besides innovative and creative guitar, lyrics, and singing, you'll find wonderfully fresh and traditional videos and techniques like Finding LucindaStranger In The Barn. and old-style Crankies. You'd expect no less from the grandchild of Warren Hellman, the founder of San Francisco's iconic Americana festival called Hardly Strictly Bluegrass.

Past/present religious/spiritual influences: Earth-based Spirituality, Jewish, Unaffiliated
