Nichola Torbett - Network of Spiritual Progressives

Nichola Torbett is National Organizer for the Network of Spiritual Progressives (NSP). She conveyed powerfully the vision of NSP as she spoke in Eau Claire on October 19, 2006, helping crystalize the formation of a local chapter, here in the Chippewa Valley.

The NSP is the creative child of Rabbi Michael Lerner and a potential home and umbrella for a diverse assortment of religious and non-religious participants who are concerned for a better, more progressive, world. Nichola does an excellent job of stirring the imagination and raising up hope and direction - a must to hear!

The over-arching goal? Transform our society to a kinder, more generous place.
There is a national mode of thinking - be afraid, don't trust anyone, look out for number one.
The need for meaning and connection - something more than just "accumulating stuff" - is a mostly frustrated and unobtained essential of our souls.
The "religious right" is right about a crisis in relationship and marriage, but it's not due to gays getting married or women getting too many rights. It's because our fearful, materialist society has taught us to see relationships as commodities to be discarded when "non-productive" or inconvenient.
An exchange of the measure of"the bottom line", from material to spiritual riches, is part of the Spiritual Covenent With America. There are some specifics, including a global "Marshall Plan", based on spending 5% of our GDP in rebuilding the world and eliminating poverty.
